Today's National Dog Day, and around here that feels like a good enough reason to bring back one of my favorite lists. If you've got a dog who goes everywhere with you, Morris actually has more patio options than people realize. Here are the spots I send people to when they ask where they can grab a bite and bring the pup along.

1. Honest Abe's Tap & Grill
A casual sports-bar-meets-grill spot with patio seating, a solid rotation of craft beer, and burgers that show up on almost every local "best of" list. It's the kind of laid-back place where nobody blinks if there's a dog under the table.

2. Culver's
The reliable, quick-stop option. Outdoor patio seating, ButterBurgers, and frozen custard, plus it's fast enough that you're not asking your dog to sit still for an hour.

3. Sam's Pizza & Subs
A true hometown pizza spot with outdoor tables and a family-friendly feel. Pizza and Italian dishes, nothing fussy about it.

4. McBride's Morris
Right on Liberty Street downtown, and it's become a local favorite for classic American pub food. There's patio seating out front, plus a separate bar area if you're just stopping for a drink.

5. Tully Monster Pub & Grill
A neighborhood pub with outdoor seating and a relaxed atmosphere, known for half-pound burgers and garlic cheese curds. Fun fact for the history buffs: it's named after the Tully Monster, which is actually Illinois' official state fossil, first discovered right here in Grundy County's Mazon Creek fossil beds.

6. Montage Wine Bar & Spirits
The elevated pick on this list. Wine, small plates, and patio seating, but here's the part that makes it stand out for us dog people: they keep water bowls out for the pups, and they actually have their own dog menu, including Pup-cuteries and Awoof Bowls.

7. Keg Grove Brewing Company
A spacious dog-friendly patio, house-brewed craft beer, and a fun, casual community vibe. The garage doors open up on nice days, which makes the whole patio area feel like an extension of the sidewalk.

8. 3 Rivers Café
Worth the short drive out of Morris. It's the second location from the family behind Tear Drop Pancake House in Minooka, and it's set up in the former Channahon Village Hall building along Route 6. Outdoor patio seating, all-day breakfast, and comfort food.
