Your Complete Guide to Pumpkin Patches and Apple Orchards Near Morris, IL

Fall is my favorite excuse to load everybody up and go find pumpkins, and every year I get asked the same question.. "Where do you actually take your family?" So I finally sat down and put together the whole list, closest to home first, so you can decide how far you feel like driving this year.

A few of these are five minutes from Morris. A few are a full day trip. Take note that farms change their schedules week to week depending on weather and how the crop is coming in, so always give their facebook page or their website a quick check the morning you go.

Heap's Giant Pumpkin Farm — Minooka, IL

About 10 miles from Morris, so this is the easy one.

Heap's has a 25-acre pumpkin patch with 90+ varieties, a giant corn maze, farm animals, and a couple of playgrounds for the kids to burn off energy while you shop for pumpkins. The farm is open daily September 13 through October 31, 10am to 6:30pm (they close at 2:30pm on Halloween itself). The actual u-pick patch opens September 19. Hayrides, the flashlight maze, and the haunted corn maze only run on specific weekend dates in October, so check their calendar before you plan around one of those.

Things to do: u-pick pumpkin patch, giant corn maze, bean maze, farm animals, Milo's Castle playground, Heaps O' Fun Barn, Tire Mountain playground, giant farm slide, hayrides (weekends), flashlight maze and haunted corn maze (select October dates), Heap's Home Cookin' grill, sunflower and flower u-pick.

However far you end up driving, my honest advice is the same every year: call or check Facebook the morning you go, wear shoes you don't mind getting muddy, and don't overplan it. Some of my favorite fall memories are the ones where we just wandered a patch with no real plan.
