Your Real Estate Journey:

50+, Retirement & Senior Living

Planning ahead. Downsizing. Aging in place. 55+ living. Helping Mom or Dad. Estate home sales.

A home that was perfect for one stage of life may not be the right home forever.

You Don't Have to Figure This Out Alone

Maybe you're approaching retirement and wondering if it's time to downsize. Maybe you want a ranch home, less maintenance, a 55+ community or a home closer to your children and grandchildren. Maybe you'd love to stay exactly where you are and simply want to know whether your current home can work for you long-term.

Or maybe this transition wasn't planned at all. A fall, hospital stay, change in health or memory concerns can suddenly leave a family trying to answer some very big questions:

Can Mom or Dad safely stay at home? What type of senior living or care do they need? How are we going to pay for it? Should we sell the house now or later? What do we do with decades of belongings? Who has the legal authority to sell the property?

And sometimes the biggest question is simply: where do we even begin?

You don't have to figure everything out at once. As a Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES), I help older adults and their families understand the real estate side of the transition, create a plan that works for their circumstances, and connect with trusted professionals when the situation requires expertise outside of real estate.

You stay in control of the decisions. My job is to help make the path forward easier to understand.

Where Are You in Your Real Estate Journey?

There is no single definition of a "senior move." For one person, it may mean buying the ranch home they've wanted for years. For another, it's finally saying goodbye to lawn care and snow removal. Someone else may be helping an 88-year-old parent transition from the family home into assisted living or memory care.

Planning for Retirement & Your Next Chapter

You may be years away from needing any kind of "senior living" but already thinking differently about your home. Your next home doesn't just need to work for you today. It should fit where you see your life going.

Questions worth considering:

Will I still want to maintain this much house or property in 5 or 10 years?

Would single-level living make life easier?

Do I want to travel more and maintain less?

Would I rather live closer to family and friends?

If my mobility changed someday, could I still comfortably live in this home?

Downsizing & Simplifying

Downsizing isn't simply moving from a big house into a smaller one. For many homeowners, it means sorting through 20, 30, 40 or even 50 years of belongings, memories and family history. That can feel overwhelming.

I can help you break the process into manageable steps and connect you with resources for estate sales, professional organizing, donation, cleanouts, movers, packing, storage, and repairs.

You don't have to empty the entire house before calling me. In fact, please don't. Sometimes families spend weeks cleaning, repairing and throwing things away only to discover that much of it wasn't necessary to successfully sell the home. Let's look at the property first and determine what actually makes sense.

Buying Your Next Home & 55+ Communities

A home that works well later in life isn't necessarily a "senior home." It may simply be a really well-designed home. When evaluating a home, we'll look beyond bedrooms, bathrooms and countertops. We'll talk about how you actually want to live.

A 55+ community can be a wonderful option for someone who wants less maintenance and more opportunities for recreation and social connection. But no two communities are alike, so before buying, we'll look at much more than the house.

Features to search for:

Main-floor living, ranch homes, first-floor primary suites

Walk-in or low-threshold showers, minimal steps

HOA-maintained properties, low-maintenance exteriors

Homes near family and medical care

Helping Mom or Dad?

Sometimes you're not researching for yourself. You're the son, daughter, grandchild, relative or caregiver who suddenly finds yourself responsible for helping someone you love.

Maybe Mom fell. Dad was hospitalized. A parent has been diagnosed with dementia. The rehabilitation center says returning home alone isn't safe. Your siblings don't agree on what should happen. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, someone asks: "What are we going to do with the house?"

This is where having someone local who understands the real estate side of a senior transition can make an enormous difference. I can help your family understand the home's potential value, the different ways it could be sold, and what, if anything, should be done before putting it on the market, so you can concentrate on your parent.

Estate & Inherited Home Sales

Selling a home after someone dies creates an entirely different set of questions.

Who owns the property?

Is it in a trust?

Is probate required?

Who has authority to sign?

Is there an executor?

I can help coordinate the real estate portion of an estate sale and work alongside your attorney, title company and other professionals. If legal or tax advice is needed, I'll make sure we stop and get the right professional involved rather than guessing.

You Don't Have to Make a Decision Today

Sometimes the hardest part of a transition is simply starting the conversation. You don't need to have the house cleaned. You don't need to know where you're moving. You don't need to have every family member in agreement.

Tell me what's happening. We'll figure out what questions need to be answered first. Then we'll take it one decision at a time.
